Open Source (HK) Showcase

This wiki page is aimed to organise an annual non-profit making community meeting in Hong Kong, 2008 for Linux / OSS users and developers.
We would like to collect goals and ideas from yours, and keep open discussion in this wiki. And we are looking for sponsorship. An organisating committee should be formed before we started the preparion and request for proposals.
It might be a showcase of Linux and open-source software and hardware project demostration, discussion, etc.
We also consider to enlarge the topic area to any open technologies related, eg. open standards, open APIs, web 2.0, blogging and wikimedia.

Date: 4 October 2008, Saturday.
Time: 1030-1730
Venue: (To Be Confirmed, probably hosted at one of local University.)
To host the event in the beginning of university academic year, to attract and encourage fresh steudents and undergraduates on use/deployment/contribution of/to open-source.
And it is the long vacation in Mainland. It could allow developers staying in China to participate the event.

- Help open-source developers/projects to marketing/promoting their works and contributions.
- To assist open-source projects to build a communication bridge with Hong Kong community.
- Keep running of local community events.
- Attract undergradates to attend the event and join Linux/OSS community in different forms (users/developers/entrepreneurs/...)
- A community/academic-based event, differs to commercial events.
- Allows some free-style, open discussion/communication between users and developers.
- We hopes more project contributors can come out and talk on their projects/development works/contributions, we don't care how short it is, because we want to make the content more rich.

Suggested Rules
- Open-source software projects licensed in any FSF-approved / OSI-approved software license is first priority on topics.
Topic Suggestions
- Users and developers are all welcomed to promote/demo any forigen/worldwide/local OSS projects.
- Each topic proposers/project developers should submit a proposal.
- Form of promotion/demostration/presentation: give a exhibition ? give a talk ? give a workshop ? Number of helpers ?
- Required resources ? Need hardware sponsor ?
- The major software in demosration should be licenesed in any FSF / OSI-approved open-source licenses.
- Distributions: Debian/GNU, Gentoo, Fedora, Ubuntu, eeePC,...
- Web Applications: CK-ERP, Drupal, PHPBB,...

Around 6 talks in the full-day seminiars and 40 minutes each. We consider to break 1-2 talk sessions to lighten talks (10-15 mins each).
